The charging tag

Posted under General

Regarding people born after 1993, it has been said that all they know is McDonald's, charge they phone, eat hot chip, & lie. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the charging tag.
Its current definition is as follows:

Can mean either one of two things:

1. The act of dashing in towards someone during a battle. Motion lines indicate rapid movement.
2. Energizing a weapon or super move to use in combat.

Despite the wiki's stated definition, a lot of the recent posts are of people simply charging their phones. Should this usage be integrated into the tag or should a new tag be created for it?
The current situation cannot persist because people associate the term "charging" with electronics to such a degree that a second tag charging_(attack) was created for the exact set of posts currently included in the definition of charging itself. I'll be fixing every charging_(attack) post as soon as a decision is made, but I'll leave them for now so people can see.

I raised this issue a year ago in topic #15795 along with a few ideas for potential replacements for charging, but it didn't engender enough discussion for me to be confident in splitting up the tag. I agree that the tag in its current state is not useful and it should be broken up.

Also, as I mentioned in the other topic, charging_(attack) is not a useful solution to the problem. Both post #118465 and post #3232498 could be described as "charging" for an attack, but they are obviously two different things.

charging_tech
charging_magic
charging_ahead
charging_a_fee

edit: actually the tech/magic split doesn't work as well as I expected. Some accumulated-energy attacks are made of electricity or fire, not magic. And guns preparing to shoot should be different from charging a phone. hmmm.

Updated

I went ahead and created charging_device and charging_forward to go with the existing powering_up and recharging tags. I haven't seen any examples of charging being used in the sense of paying money, so with any luck it won't be too much trouble to divide up charging and charging_(attack) among these four tags. Hopefully it won't take long.

The names of these tags may not be the best, but they can always be changed later; the important thing is breaking up the ambiguous mess that is charging.
