It's been a while since Pokemon Black and White were released, and the female protagonist, like her male counterpart hasn't been given a "real" offical name (Such as Kouki or Hikari). Is it safe to rename her white (pokemon)?

Gonna need input from Pokemon fans on this one. Any ideas?

If you recall forum #44127, the male protagonist's name, Black, was revealed in a somewhat official capacity in a trailer. I wouldn't recommend making an alias unless someone has evidence confirming the female protag's name.

Is the other player character present in the game after you start it? If so, does s/he get a set name each time (May/Brendan, Dawn/Lucas), or is it determined by the player (Green/Blue, Barry)? If named by the player, what does hitting START with nothing entered result in? If it's always the same result, then we can probably determine the female alternate's name from Black Version (or as the player in White Version). (For instance, the rival's default name in HeartGold is "Soul".)

We should just keep it as it is right now, Female/male protagonist, until the name either officially come out or just give them shortcut nicknames like Famenag and Hillside have implied until it is discover.

From the wiki it said that it was released in japan at Sept. 18 2010 which is only about a week ago starting from today(being Sept.22-24 2010). A month or two would be best.

There don't seem to be too big of a problem as of now sine the tag is pretty specific, as long as others under stand what B&W stands for.
The worse it could do it cause some confusion and take longer then usual to write/tag, I hope.

Well, if the game versions don't get/have default names, I'm sure SPECIAL/Adventures will make short work of name assignment.

I chose the male character.
When you do double battles, the NPC you play with is the female player character. She introced herself as Touko.

the male character's name is Touya.

It is indeed Touya and Touko because in one of the battle trains, you team up with the player character you didn't choose and their names are shown as such.

I hope that clears stuff up!

Some sources are saying Black (boy) and White (girl). But if the names Touya and Touko are indeed the names, I guess it then falls to a matter of wheter to go with the simpler names Black and White or the japanese ones, granted I know that we typically list human pokemon characters with their original japanese names. Of course it then becomes a matter of going through every individual picture and renaming them (which shouldn't be too hard as the Black/White collection is still quite small compared to the entire Pokemon category).

We could alias them for now, and when the Black and White Pokemon Adventures comes out, we could undo it, but only if they revealed different names for the characters.

Too bad there isn't a system within the site's programing to make it that certain tag changes alter for every post connected to them (like we change the name to White, and all "female protagonist" change to white like snap). Oh well, but I do think it'd help since the current tag is a tad long and drawn out for a character tag.

Huh? I don't follow what you mean. I know certain tag changes are universal, but I know there are always concerns about having to go back and manually retag posts because of a drastic change to it's original tags.

No, he means that we have a system in place that will automatically change whichever given tags into a different tag. Some of these are as shortcuts (such as my recent pokemon_hgss into pokemon_heartgold_and_soulsilver), some are for localization differences (such as balthier into balflear), some are different terms for the same idea (yellow_hair to blonde_hair), spelling differences (blond_hair to blonde_hair), etc.

Under the Tags tab up at the top, there's an Alias tab. This shows all the current aliases (and their reasons, if provided).

Ah, ok. So that would change all "female protagonist" to white if we do change it? That would be good, since I'm sure it'd be a pain to have to manually retag each one with the proper name.

Alright so what's the verdict then? Black/White or Touko/Touya? Sounds like the latter to me.

Touya and Touko since they're official, please! Sure, confusion may happen at first but it can be solved with a quick visit to other sites.

EDIT: While we're at it, the name of the protagonists' female childhood friend should be changed to Bel because it shares a theme with other childhood friend Cheren's (they're derived from Slavic roots for white and black respectively).

Alright went with touya_(pokemon) and touko_(pokemon) for now.
