I don't get the 'color' tag

Posted under General

While doing some tagme cleaning, I came across the color tag. What's the point of this tag? If it's referring to images loaded with colors, we already have the colorful tag. I feel this color tag is too ambiguous, since the majority of Danbooru's images are in color anyway, and there are tags for certain colored items such as backgrounds, legwear, hair, eyes, swimwear, and so on.

If someone can verify a reason for this tag, I can update the Wiki for it.

Fixed.

I browsed through the forums, but it still doesn't make sense to me. There's artists coloring another's lineart or monochrome images, while there's also artists who normally draw in monochrome suddenly doing color. The definition is still to vague to me.

Looked through the images and the linked posts above, and I don't get it either. There is a colored tag and a colorful tag, both with clear semantic meanings, but color just seems to be a random pool.

I vote to delete tag unless someone can come up with a useful wiki definition for it.

Throughout the 5 threads made about this, all I really see is people equally confused and considering it useless, with the only 2 uses being:

Both of these uses could be considered sufficiently related, and "color" sounds like a very unspecific tag for them, so I vote it at least gets renamed into something more specific, along with a proper explanation on the wiki.

Maybe part((ia)ly)_color(ed), or half-color (could be confused with halftone), or something.

Okay, I've removed the color tag from all posts except the deleted ones. Not sure if it's necessary to remove them from deleted posts as well, but it's now considered an ambiguous tag.

Looks like it was mostly being used for colored 4komas than anything else.

Nuking a tag before you get the OK to do so is always a bad idea, even more so, when there were concepts in there (see SystemXS's post) that are taggable.

Spot_color does NOT cover posts such as post #825246 and post #934835. It is for posts that are nearly entirely monochrome, but have some spots colored for emphasis, usually the eyes.

I've restored the color tag in any case so more than 5 people can take a look at it, especially jxh. I will say it's pretty annoying to go through several pages of tag edits to find the nuked tag in question, restoring it, then going back to restore added tags for manually-edited posts.

I'm also seriously contemplating making a formal request to remove or restrict tag scripts for Builder-level users and below. It would curb the rash of people "helping" at least.

Member level users can't tag script. Most users making too quick decisions are builder level or above anyways.

It wouldn't be right to do something like this for every single Builder-level user and below. Those who help should keep their privileges, only those who "help" shouldn't. A few demotions and stricter criteria for promotion to Builder would be enough.

Did Privileged-level users get tag script privileges removed? That's why I specifically worded it as "Builder-level users and below."

Anyway, this is getting off-topic. Enough from me about it.

Builder is just a title, functionally identical to priv, It's possible but not very plausible that albert will ever change this.

I was saying anyone willing to pay for an upgrade won't do anything to risk demotion and and anyone who's earned an upgrade has made enough edits or uploads without scripting to be trusted. If they're making bad decisions they need to be notified of what they've done wrong but that's about it. Making builder into a special featureset kind of puts a lot of pressure on jxh and albert to keep a constant eye on those users.

Can we have tag to describe a fullcolor image? I'm looking for color tag to find a cover and content.

That sure should’ve gone into it’s own topic, not this old one…

No, we can’t. Try something like -monochrome -spot_color -partially_colored.
